Frequently Asked Questions
General FAQs
Can I enter more than one class?
Yes! You may enter as many classes as you wish, but you must purchase one entry per class.
What file format and size should my photo be?
JPG or PNG, maximum size 5MB. Aim for good lighting, sharp focus, and a neutral background unless the class calls for a different style.
Can I include my name or logo in the photo?
No. Entries are judged anonymously, so any identifying marks will result in disqualification.
What happens after I pay for my entry?
You’ll receive an email with your confirmation and details of your personal FloraNova account. Use this link to log in to your FloraNova account where you will be able to upload and/or replace your design photo before the deadline. You will also be able to purchase additional entries from your FloraNova account dashboard.
Can I edit my photo after submission?
Submissions are locked as soon as they are submitted. However, you can replace the uploaded image with a new one via your FloraNova account dashboard.
Do I have to be a professional florist?
No. FloraNova is open to all skill levels — some classes are designed specifically for beginners.
How will I know if I’ve won?
Results will be announced via email. You’ll also receive a link to the post-competition showcase.
Class Types – FAQs
Who can enter Open classes?
Anyone. Open classes are available to all entrants, regardless of previous competition experience.
Who can enter Novice/Beginner classes?
Entrants who are new to competing: either never competed before, or only at local level (club, community, or regional). If you’ve competed successfully at national or international level, you’re not eligible for Novice/Beginner classes.
I’ve only entered my local club show once—am I a Novice/Beginner?
Yes. Local-only experience is eligible for Novice/Beginner classes.
I entered a national online competition last year—am I a Novice/Beginner?
It depends. Prior successful (any level of award) national or international competition experience makes you ineligible for Novice/Beginner classes. Please enter an Open class instead. However, if you have entered a national or international competition without success, you may enter the Novice / Beginner classes.
Artificial Flower Classes – FAQs
Which classes are for artificial flowers only?
Classes specifically identified as "Artificial Flower Classes". No natural materials are allowed in these classes.
Can I mix fresh and artificial flowers in these classes?
No. These classes are strictly for artificial flowers only. Fresh, dried, or preserved plant material is not permitted.
Are preserved or dried flowers allowed?
No. Only artificial flowers (commercially made or hand-crafted) may be used. Preserved and dried natural flowers belong in other Open or Novice/Beginner classes, not the artificial flower category.
Can I use non-floral materials in the artificial flower classes?
Yes. Non-floral materials, mechanics, or decorative elements may be used, as long as the floral material itself is entirely artificial and predominates in the design.
Will the judging be different for artificial flower classes?
Judging will follow the same principles and elements of design as for natural flower classes, with extra consideration given to the creative and effective use of artificial media.
